Happy New Year!
It has been great getting back into the clinic and operating theatre after a refreshing summer break with my family.
As an orthopedic surgeon, my schedule is often demanding, and my commitment to patient care is unwavering. However, even in the field of medicine, it's crucial to take some time off to recharge and reconnect with life beyond the operating room. I always like to take some time to reflect, recharge and relax at this time of year. While things are undoubtedly less ‘relaxing’ with a busy family life with two very active toddlers, I was able to enjoy some amazing days along our beautiful SA Coastline with my family over the Christmas and New Year period.
This past Christmas break, I had the opportunity to do just that, and it turned out to be a truly rejuvenating experience.
As a family, we spent some time along the beautiful SA coastline at Carrickalinga and around the Yorke Peninsula. Much time was spent driving trucks through the sand, kicking balls, making sandcastles and splashing about.
I spent a beautiful New Year’s Day fishing while at the picturesque Yorke Peninsula. With fishing gear in hand, the serene waters, cool sea breeze, and the gentle sound of waves provided the perfect backdrop for unwinding.
The day couldn't have been more perfect. The thrill of the chase, the excitement of the catch, and the camaraderie of fellow fishing enthusiasts made for an unforgettable experience. We managed an abundant catch of crabs, leatherjackets, and even a majestic kingfish. The feeling of being on the water, surrounded by nature's beauty, was incredibly enjoyable and soothing.
The following day, the catch of the day took center stage in a culinary adventure. We transformed the fresh crab into a delectable chili crab pasta that delighted the taste buds with its perfect balance of flavors and textures. And let's not forget the kingfish sashimi, a delicate dish that allowed us to savor the essence of the sea.
This getaway served as a reminder of the importance of finding time for oneself and indulging in the simple joys of life. It's not just about being a dedicated surgeon; it's also about being a well-rounded individual who values the beauty of nature and the pleasure of good food shared with loved ones.
In the end, this holiday break not only allowed me to recharge but also reinforced my commitment to a balanced life that includes both professional excellence and personal well-being.
As I return to my practice, I bring with me a renewed sense of energy, ready to continue providing the highest level of care to my patients while cherishing the memories of wonderful time spent unwinding with my family and friends.
